“Of old you (God) laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but you are the same, and your years have no end.– Psalm 102:25–27 ESV

Change is hard. I’ve had the same dental hygienist for the past 44 years – my wife, Tami. But now that she is temping and no longer has a regular office, I had to go to a different hygienist this week. She was fine, but I miss my old one. I assume my endocrinologist will be next. I’ve seen him for over 25 years. But since he is 74 years old, I know the day is coming when I will have to change doctors, too.

You don’t have to be very old to experience changes. They happen to all of us. Some changes we welcome, but to be honest, far too many of them lately have been the unwelcomed kind. So like I said, change is hard.

That’s why I take comfort in the fact that God never changes and God’s love for us never ends.

Take a look at these comforting words from the bible:

  • “For I the LORD do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.” – Malachi 3:6 ESV
  • “Give thanks to the Lord because he is good. His love continues forever.” – Psalm 136:1 NCV
  • “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” – Hebrews 13:8 ESV
  • “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” – James 1:17 ESV

Have a wonderful week. Enjoy the colored leaves. (That’s one change that I do welcome.) And rest in the knowledge that God’s love for you will continue forever.
