It seems like we’ve spent an eternity between winter and spring. Easter has passed and still the weather is cold and gray. I can’t wait for green grass, warm sunshine, and an opportunity to be outside without jacket and gloves. Come on spring! Let’s get moving!

I wonder if the Disciples felt the same way after Easter. Jesus had won. The plans of the powerful had been crushed by his resurrection. Time to get out and bring in God’s kingdom. Instead, Jesus tells them to wait. Acts 1 reports:

And while staying with them (Jesus) charged them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, “you heard from me, for John baptized with water, but before many days you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

They had to wait on God’s timing for the start of their ministry. Only on Pentecost, after 50 days of waiting, does the Spirit fall upon them and miracles begin to happen. I don’t know what you are waiting for. An answer to prayer? A new ministry opportunity? A sunny spring day? Whatever it is, trust in God as you wait. Brighter days are coming.

Pastor Mark

But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
