JUN 04 / Sunday – Read John 3:16 / First John 4:8 / John 15:9-13
Overview: The Trinity (i.e., one God in three persons: Father, Son & Holy Spirit) is a complex concept. Now add: an eternal self-giving love between them. The result? “1 God + 3 Persons = Love”
05 / Mon – In the beginning | Read Genesis 1:26-27 / Matthew 25:40
In the beginning, God said “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness…” and he did. What do these words say about God? What do they tell you about yourself? And the people you live with, work with and hang out with? How should it influence the way you view people you see in media? And what about the strangers you pass by at the store or on the street? How should this knowledge affect the way you think of them? Ask God to help you value everyone you meet as he does.
06 / Tue – Who are you listening to? | Read Genesis 3:1-24
Adam and Eve had a perfect relationship with the Lord God. He walked in the garden with them and they had face-to-face conversations. Then something changed. What question brought doubt into Eve’s mind (v. 1)? In verse 6, why did she believe the serpent she had just met instead of the God who created her, knew and loved her? Have you ever been tempted to believe God was withholding something good from you? What did you do? What were the results? How can you guard your heart when you hear the question from your enemy ‘Did God really say…’?
07 / Wed – Hope | Read 1 Corinthians 15:22
The Lord God knew in advance what would happen in the garden of Eden. He knew those he had created and fiercely loved would choose against him and their relationship would be damaged. Did that make him stop loving them? Do you think your wrong choices make God love you any less? Even though there were severe consequences because of Adam and Eve’s decision, God did not desert them and he will not desert you. His plan to redeem and restore will not be thwarted.
08 / Thu – Words that can change your life | Read Isaiah 43
Although you may not be a Jew, in Christ, there is no distinction. Therefore, you can read Isaiah’s words and know they apply to you. What does the Lord say about you in v.1? Compare that to v.4a and v.7. For what has the Lord chosen you in v.10, 21? What instruction does he give you in v.18? And what is the promise in v.19? Ask God to show you what you need to let go of in your past. Ask him to help you see the new thing he is doing. With him, there is always hope.
09 / Fri – Does he really? | Read John 3:16-18 / First John 4:9-10, 13-16
Do you ever wonder if God really loves you, especially when life gets hard and he seems far away? Do you sometimes feel guilty because you don’t really love him like you know you should? If so, read this definition of love in 1 John 4:10. You can see that God is the instigator, you are the responder. When dark thoughts from the enemy cause you to question God’s love, refute him with these words of truth. There is no greater expression of love than that Jesus literally gave up his life to redeem you. How can you not love someone like him and want to know him better?
10 / Sat – Unconditionally loved | Read 1 John 4:7-8, 11-12, 19-21
Does it seem strange that you can only love others to the degree that you feel loved? Know that God loves you unconditionally and also that you can never do anything to lose that love. That is where you will find great freedom. All fear melts away. When you understand that God lives in you, then you can know and fully rely on his love. Only then can love flow out of you to others. Even when there are difficult people in your life, you can ask the Lord to love them through you. And he will.
