“The Lord God put the man in the Garden of Eden to take care of it and to look after it.” – Genesis 2:15 CEV
The garden centers are open. Yard work has begun. And every gardener is itching to start planting. Spring is here and the gardens are calling.
In the very beginning, humans had just one task: take care of the garden. All they had to do was take care of the place they lived. We now have many more tasks than that, but the original job still belongs to us – take care of the place we live; take care of the earth. The whole earth belongs to God, and we are but caretakers. Thank you for doing your part.
Thanks to everyone who helped pick up trash along Hwy 55, and everyone who refrained from littering in the first place. Thanks to those who volunteer with conservation organizations and everyone who has ever removed invasive species like buckthorn, or washed and dried their boat so as not to spread zebra mussels. Thanks to those recycle their trash and those who compost their kitchen waste. Thanks to everyone who ever planted a tree. And thank you to all the gardeners who beautify their yards, brighten our days with flowers, and grow nutritious vegetables.
The earth is the Lord’s, and every time you take care of the place where you live you are honoring God and fulfilling our original task. So, happy gardening.
