Finally, I was going to get some long-deferred chores done. I had a potted tree that I’ve wanted to get in the ground all a summer. But when I dug the hole, I disturbed a yellowjacket nest, was stung multiple times, and had to abandon that project. I tried to finish building a shed I started way back in May, but then it poured and I had to give that up. At least the sun came out long enough to have a chance to mow the lawn. But then I was delayed getting home until after dark and that chore was left undone as well. Some days things don’t go according to plan – at least our plans.
It’s frustrating when things don’t go according to our plans. I’m glad God doesn’t have that problem. Isaiah 14:27 says, “The Lord of heavenly forces has created a plan; who can stop it?” Not only do God’s plans work out, God’s plans are for our good. Remember God’s promise in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Someday I’ll get the tree planted, the shed built, and the lawn mowed. Or maybe not. But I can be confident that God’s plans for my life will come to pass, and in Christ I will have hope and a future.
God bless your week,
Pastor Mark
