Well, it’s spring…at least that’s what the calendar says. But in Minnesota it’s always more promise than present in March. Yes, the snow piles are melting. Yes, the days have more daylight than darkness. Yes, I saw my first robin last week. But we are a long way from green grass, blooming flowers, and truly warm days. (And we only tell ourselves 50s are warm to make ourselves feel better.)

My son, who moved back to Minnesota last summer, was reminiscing about last March in Kansas City where the temperature was 75 and the kids could truly enjoy a day in the park. In Minnesota we can only trust that those days are coming (in April…May…June?). The calendar says spring, but it’s more of a promise right now.

The Christian life is often like that. The bible tells us in Revelation 21:4, “(God) will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” It’s a great promise, but for right now we have plenty of all that (just like we have plenty of cold and mud and misery in March). Life right now may not be perfect, but the promise is true. One day God will wipe away all the tears. So hang in there. Better days are coming. I know that because it’s already spring.

Peace in Christ,

Pastor Mark
