Weather this month just can’t seem to make up its mind. From brutal windchills and snow one week to a string of 40s the next, I don’t know what kind of jacket to grab when I go outside. We expect that kind of weather in March, but this is December. December should be cold, period.

Unless you are a winter sports enthusiast, though, you might not mind these swings from cold to hot. (Can I really call 40º hot?) Even Jesus doesn’t mind cold or hot. What he doesn’t
like is lukewarm.

In Revelation 3:15-16, Jesus has a special message for the church of Laodicea. He says “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.” You get the picture. Hot cider and cold cider are both great but lukewarm cider is “yuck!” Same goes for coffee. Same goes for our faith. Jesus says, “Be for me or against me. Worship me or don’t worship me. Follow me or don’t follow me. But don’t do it half-heartedly church! Be aflame with my Spirit.”

Whether it’s cold outside or not, this is the month to light the fire of faith again. What actions can you take to rekindle the flame? How can we be on fire for Jesus?

Have a wonderful week!
