FEB 09 / Sunday – Read 1 Cor 13:1-13

Overview: What do people see as the greatest thing they could ever have? Wealth…Wisdom…Health…Reputation…? Admirable, but nothing really that great about them contrasted with God’s ultimate GOAT: Love.

10 / Mon – Greatest (and most enduring) of all time  |  Read 1 Corinthians 13:13

Love is a word so overused in our culture it often loses its meaning. One definition states it is a strong feeling of warm personal attachment or deep affection. Think of someone you love in this way. Then multiply it times infinity. This is how your Creator and God feels about you. Even more amazing is that He knows everything about you, yet it does not diminish His love one iota. As you dwell on this thought today, how might it change the way you think of Him and of yourself?

11 / Tue – The gift  |  Read Romans 5:8

Love is a wonderful thing and when you truly love someone, it moves you to action. Look at your Heavenly Father’s example. His love for you is so immense that He would do anything to remove whatever keeps you from relationship with Him. All obstacles can be boiled down to sin and a rebellious independence, things we can never overcome on our own. He shattered their power at the cross and will give freedom to anyone who wants it. Do you fully understand this tremendous gift that’s been offered? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal it to your heart and mind.

12 / Wed – Motivations  |  Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

What are the accomplishments of which you are most proud? Have you considered what God might think of them? These verses remind us to consider the motivations for whatever we do. Even the smallest, most insignificant act rises to great importance in God’s eyes when it is done for the right reasons. How can you use this idea to measure everything you do? Will you ask the Holy Spirit to help you to seriously consider the why behind each word and action?

13 / Thu – Characteristics  |  Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

You have most likely read these verses before. Read them again and consider how they apply to your Heavenly Father. Replace the words love and it with my Father and see what new insights you might gain. The Lord will never ask you to do something He hasn’t already done. He will ask you to do things, like these, that seem too difficult but He will always give you the strength and ability to obey. Will you commit to living this way, starting today? You can depend on His help to do so.

14 / Fri – It never fails  |  Read 1 Corinthians 13:8-10 / 1 John 4:16

What powerful words begin this section of scripture. Can you think of anything that has never failed you? A person, a promise, a guarantee, anything you have put your hope in? If you think of anything in life that hasn’t failed you, add the word yet. There is always that possibility, except for one thing: God’s love for you…His strong, warm personal attachment and deep affection for you. It is the one thing on which you can fully rely. Will you choose to believe this, in spite of everything else?

15 / Sat – Pass the gift along  |  Read Ephesians 3:16-19 / 1 John 4:19

Remember when someone first declared they were in love with you? It changed everything. The world looked different. Little things didn’t seem to bug you as much. If it made you feel more kindly towards others and quicker to forgive, then you were experiencing the truth of John’s words. The more fully you believe and rely on the warm affection the Lord has for you, the greater your capacity to love others. Will you ask the Holy Spirit to reveal more fully how deeply you are loved? It will absolutely change everything.
