28 / Sunday Read 2 Corinthians 3:18
Overview: Silver is for reflecting Christ, as in a mirror. It’s also represents the 30 pieces of silver Judas took to betray Jesus. So in this coming year, will we reflect Christ or betray him?
29 / Mon – Precious | Read Luke 20:20-25 / Genesis 1:27 / Acts 3:6-8
Silver is one of the most valuable metals on earth. It is intrinsically precious but may increase in value depending on how it is used. Take a silver coin, for example. What determines its value is not how much silver is used to make it but the imprint stamped on its face. Your value is not based on your performance but on whose image you bear. It is the same for every human being, even if that image has been defaced. Let that sink in. For yourself. For those you dislike. For the strangers you meet. Will you let this truth be a filter when ‘judging’ the person in front of you?
30 / Tue – Useful | Read Psalm 119:72 / 2 Timothy 3:16-17
Silver is used for more than just coins, jewelry, or fancy silverware. It is also used in solar panels, water filtration systems, electronics, and medical devices because of its electrical conductivity, efficient heat transfer, reflectivity, and antimicrobial properties. But more valuable than silver are the words of God. Their truth and wisdom will enrich your life greater than anything else. You’ll never be sorry you gave them the highest priority. Do you believe this? How are you at living it out?
31 / Wed – Reflective | Read James 1:23-25
Because of its reflective properties, silver is used to make mirrors. Plain glass is transformed when silver is applied to one side. Then a common piece of glass becomes a useful tool in everyday life. It helps you evaluate your appearance and see things that need to change. A mirror also reflects light. When you become a mirror reflecting the image of Christ, you can bring light into dark places. How will you reflect Jesus to others today?
JAN 01 / Thu – A new beginning | Read 2 Corinthians 5:17
It is the first day of a new year, and it can also feel like a new beginning. This might be a good time to pause, to reflect back on the previous year, to celebrate the things you want to continue going forward and to make plans for things you’d like to change. If you are committed to following Jesus, one goal may be getting to know him better. Another might be to live more like him this year. Will you listen to the Holy Spirit as you reflect on these things?
02 / Fri – A simple New Year challenge | Read Psalm 119:11 / Philippians 4:13
One of the most productive things you can do is to read God’s word. It will give you wisdom, correct errors in your perspective, and keep you from sin. Is this a daily joy for you, or do you have a difficult time being consistent? One thing that may help is making a serious promise to the Lord that you’ll read the Bible 5 minutes a day for the rest of the year. It can be the first thing you do in the morning, the last thing at day’s end, or anytime in between. Ask the Holy Spirit to remind you of your promise – even if it’s when crawling into bed at night – and He will help you to stay faithful.
03 / Sat – Who are you talking to? | Read Psalms 55:22 / Philippians 4:6-7
Prayer is another impactful way to change things this year. It’s too tempting to complain or avoid dealing with troubling issues. The best place to go first is to the Lord. You can pour out all the details of your concerns. He cares, and He understands better than anyone. If consistency is a problem – you only pray when you are desperate – why not grow in your relationship by choosing to talk to Him 5 minutes each day for the rest of the year? It will do your heart good.
