APR 20 / Easter Sunday – Read Matthew 21:1-10 / John 20:19-21 / John 14:27

Overview: In this game, you run to try and break through the linked arms of opposing players. Jesus’ resurrection broke the barrier of sin & death. For us now, nothing more to fear; in its place: peace.

21 / Mon – Look around  |  Read Psalm 34:18 / 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Easter is a joyful celebration that remembers how Jesus’ resurrection forever broke the power of sin and death. What fun memories did you make this year with your family? While Easter brings hope and strips away the despair of death, some still grieve because a person they love is missing. Maybe that describes you. If not, will you be sensitive and look around? Pray that God would use you to bring comfort to someone who needs it, no matter what their situation may be.

22 / Tue – Peace is possible  |  Read John 14:27 / John 16:33

How do you find peace in situations causing fear or worry? Jesus knows how hard it is to maintain a calm spirit in times like these. That is why he offers his peace to you. It settles over you when you stop trying to control something and surrender it to Jesus. You can be confident that he knows all about the problem and will work things out in the best way possible. The key is to focus on him and his words every time the what-if questions try to steal your attention. Will you make that choice?

23 / Wed – Chains  |  Read John 8:31-32 / John 14:6 / 2 Corinthians 3:17

Sin forges chains one link at a time, and so gradually it is hardly noticeable. So, what can you do when you find yourself in bondage to something, anything that is out of control in your life? You start by acknowledging the sin problem (choosing your way over God’s way) and admitting your inability to change. He understands completely and does not condemn you. He’ll tell you the truth that sets you free. Ask him for some actionable next steps to take. Ask for strength and courage to obey. Will you take time to listen and then move forward with resolve? Freedom is possible.

24 / Thu – Freedom in Christ  |  Read Galatians 5:1 and 13-26

Jesus’ death broke the chains of sin. His resurrection demolished the hold that fear of death has on us. He sets us free, but it is important to consider what comes next. If we are not careful, we can misuse the freedom he gained for us. Stay alert for temptation. Be careful not to dilute the truth and fall back into the old ways. Will you ask the Holy Spirit to show you anything that may be diverting you from living as Jesus did? He will certainly help you get back on track.

25 / Fri – Jesus rose from the dead – so what?  |  Read Colossians 1:21-23

What difference does Easter make for you? What are some of the blessings God has given you as a result of Jesus’ death and resurrection? How has it impacted the way you live? Does it change the way you look at others, especially those who don’t know Jesus yet? Are you living in the hope he gives? Do you trust him, even when the future looks bleak? Will you pursue the peace he bought for you? Take some time to ponder these questions as honestly as you can. What changes do you want to see going forward?

26 / Sat – Team Jesus  |  Read Colossians 1:13-14

In the children’s game Red Rover, one team names someone on the other side, challenging them to break through the human chain. If successful, they get to bring someone back to their side. That is what Jesus did for you. Now it is your turn. Do you know someone needing a breakthrough? Will you step up to the challenge, with intercessory prayer and conversations guided by the Holy Spirit, backing up your words by demonstrating God’s love? If so, you are a team member in God’s rescue mission and that’s pretty exciting!
