MAY 04 / Easter Sunday – Read Matthew 28:16-20
Overview: This game is simple: The green light means “Go!” and the red light means “Stop!” In practical terms, move it when Jesus says “go” and stop what you’re doing when he says “stop”.
05 / Mon – Red Light, Green Light | Read James 1:22-25
Young children are quick to recognize what the colors of a stoplight mean. That might be one reason why they love the game Red Light/Green Light. And it’s easy to play – just do whatever the leader tells you to do. The gospels have many examples of Jesus telling someone to stop or to go. He wasn’t trying to trick them but to help them. When they obeyed, good things resulted. Think of a time when the Holy Spirit told you to go, or maybe to stop. What happened? What did you learn?
06 / Tue – Red light – stop! | Read John 6:43 / John 7:24 / Mark 10:13-16
If you are a parent, you’ve probably had to stop your child from doing something wrong or unwise. If you are not a parent, you were once a child and may remember getting upset when you couldn’t get your way; Jesus told his followers to stop doing things too, like stop grumbling, don’t judge others by first appearances, and stop hindering little kids from coming to him. Will you ask the Lord, right now, if there’s something you need to quit doing? The Holy Spirit will provide all the help you need.
07 / Wed – Green light – go! | Read John 8:10-11 / Matthew 5:23-24 / Luke 7:50
Jesus not only told people to stop, he also told them to go…go and be reconciled, go and sin no more, go in peace. What is the Lord telling you to do? Help a neighbor, give to someone in need? Forgive an offense…or ask forgiveness from someone else? Defend the weak, stand up for what’s right, protect the vulnerable? Some of these things may cost you but doing them will bless others and will also bring joy to your Heavenly Father.
08 / Thu – Teach what you know | Read Matthew 28:19-20, especially v20a
This is the commission Jesus gave his followers just before returning to heaven. Note: it comes after they had spent several years watching, listening and learning from him. You’ve probably been following Jesus for a while now so, if you were making disciples, what would be the most important things, or the basics, they need to start with? Who first helped you and what did they teach you? Are you open to helping a new believer in this way? Look around and see who God is pointing out.
09 / Fri – What a witness does | Read Acts 1:8 and 2:32 and 5:32 and 10:39-43 and 13:30-31
In court, a witness gives their story. They speak of what they know and testify about what they saw of the incident in question. Jesus calls each of us to be a witness for him, telling the curious what we have seen and heard and know to be true. That’s it. You are not giving a sales pitch or trying to win a debate to force someone to believe. You just state the facts of your own experience. Do you have a two-minute explanation of how Jesus changed your life? If not, organize your thoughts and put them on paper. You never know when the right person will need to hear it.
10 / Sat – You have a choice | Read John 6:38 / Matt 26:39 / Joshua 24:14-18
Research shows the average person makes 35,000 decisions daily, consciously and unconsciously. Someone once said, I only have one thing to do today: follow Him. Is it really possible to live this out? Try it. Start your day by connecting with Jesus in your heart and mind, asking for his way to do things, resolving to pause before you speak or act, as often as you can. End by reviewing your day, celebrating the good, asking forgiveness when needed and learning from your mistakes. Practice this everyday and you’ll have fewer regrets. Will you try this experiment for a few weeks?
