JAN 14 / Sunday – Matthew 6:13
Overview: A rechargeable battery is dependent on its power source in order to function properly and perform at its best. So are we.
15 / Mon – Overshadowed | Read Luke 1:35, 38
Mary asked the angel Gabriel how it could be that she would give birth to Jesus since she was a virgin. The angel told her that the Holy Spirit would come upon her. It would be the power of the Holy Spirit that would do this work in her life. Are you willing to embrace what the Holy Spirit wants to do in your life? What do you sense needs to be surrendered into God’s care so that you will have room to receive the dynamite power He gives to do this work?
16 / Tue – The Wilderness | Read Luke 3:21-22 and 4:1-2, 14
Before Jesus’ ministry began, the Spirit led him into a wilderness. There he was tempted by the devil for 40 days, tempted to fulfill legitimate human needs by taking the easy way out. The power of the Spirit enabled Jesus to overcome. Are you at a low point? The Spirit of God will strengthen you. As Picardo/Kibbey writes, “Real power comes not from your own strength or simply the power of positive thinking. Miraculous power, dunamis power flows through when you reject what is the easy route in favor of saying ‘yes’ to what you know of God’s preferred future for you” (p 5). Will you?
17 / Wed – Sent | Read Luke 9:1-2
Jesus demonstrated to his disciples how to live and serve by the power of the Spirit. He had the authority to do so. But there came a time when he gave them the power, under his authority, to go out to proclaim the kingdom of God and do the same miracles he had been doing. The authors of Dynamite Prayer ask this searching question: under whose authority would you honestly say you live and act – your own or someone else’s or God’s? Something to seriously consider, if you have decided to follow Jesus as his disciple.
18 / Thu – Unbelief | Read Matthew 13:54-58
The people in Jesus’ hometown were stuck in the past. They didn’t believe anything about Jesus had changed. He was still the carpenter’s son who grew up down the street. It was their unbelief that restricted God’s Spirit from flowing freely, through him, on their behalf. Are there places in your life where you think nothing will ever change? Could your unbelief be preventing the flow of His Spirit into that situation? Ask God to give you His perspective and fill you with faith.
19 / Fri – Ability | Read Matthew 25:14-28
In Dynamite Prayer, Picardo and Kibbey offer a new way of thinking about this familiar story. God has given a portion of His dynamite power to each person who has said yes to Him. The amount varies with each person but everyone has something they can do well. Do you know what your ability is? If not, ask a trusted friend to help. Then consider the example of each servant. Whose example are you following? How and where will you invest the talent God has given you?
20 / Sat – Wait training & timing | Read Luke 3:23 / Luke 24:49 / Acts 1:8
Noah worked 120 years before a drop of rain fell. Abraham waited 25 years for his promised son to be born. Joseph was enslaved for 14 years before being promoted to Egypt’s 2nd-in-command. Jesus waited 30 years before his ministry was unleashed. Their time was not wasted. It was being invested. God was at work while they waited and His timing was perfect. Will you surrender and wait for God to open doors, to provide, guide, and empower you? It is the better way.
