16 / Sunday Read John 14:26 (CEB-Common English Bible)
Overview: We wrap up our study of the Nicene Creed, looking at the section that tells us about the Holy Spirit, and how it helped guide the teaching of the truth of Jesus.
17 / Mon – God the Holy Spirit | Read Genesis 1:1-2 / John 14:26
Because the Holy Spirit was so prominent in the New Testament, some don’t realize he was present and active before time began. As a part of the Godhead, he has always existed. The Holy Spirit is eternal and infinite. He understands everything and has unlimited power. He is present everywhere at the same time. He is good. He loves you. He is with you and in you. Available anytime of the day or night. Will you open up your heart and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal Himself more fully?
18 / Tue – Paraclete | Read John 14:15-18 / Romans 8:26-27
Jesus promised to send a paraclete after he left. This Greek word means one called alongside to help. It has been translated in English as counselor, advocate, intercessor, comforter, and helper. How has he become these things for you? Have you looked to him for counsel when making decisions? Has he been your advocate when facing unfair or unjust accusations? Do you know he intercedes on your behalf? Have you experienced his comfort? How has he come alongside to help at various times? Take time to thank him for being such a wonderful friend.
19 / Wed – Job description | Read John 14:25-26 / John 15:26 / John 16:12-15
When Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit as ‘one who comes alongside,’ he also described how the Holy Spirit would help us. Which of these have you experienced? What do you need for today? Will you pause to listen after you have asked for his help? Undiluted truth is rare in these times, but the Holy Spirit will guide you, helping you discern between erroneous beliefs and the real truth. What you do next is up to you. Will you follow his guidance?
20 / Thu – The Holy Spirit in the Old Testament | Read see below
You have read what the Holy Spirit did in the book of Acts, but do you know that he was at work all throughout the Old Testament? God the Spirit came upon Moses’ elders in Num 11:24-26, Samson in Judges 13:5,24-25, Saul in 1 Sam 10:6-7, David in 2 Sam 23:1-2, the prophet Isaiah in Is 61:1, the people of Israel in Is 59:20, the prophet Ezekiel in Ez 11:5 and the prophet Micah in Mi 3:8. He came upon these people enabling them to do specific kingdom work. Has this ever happened to you? Is there a time when you felt an unusual power to do as God called you? What happened?
21 / Fri – Conviction | Read John 16:7-11 (NKJV-New King James Version)
A conviction is a strongly-held belief. What are some convictions you have that are rock-solid? In legal terms, a conviction also means to be found guilty. Jesus described the part the Holy Spirit would play in salvation, convicting people about their sin. Unless a person understands just how irrevocably they have broken God’s moral laws, they feel no need for a savior. And after salvation, the Holy Spirit continues to bring sinful attitudes and actions to our attention so they can be dealt with. How have you seen him at work this way in your life? Do you welcome his intervention?
22 / Sat – Start here | Read Acts 1:8 / John 17:3 / John 17:17-18
A witness tells what they know and have experienced. The disciples spent several years following, listening, and learning to know Jesus. It was the bedrock of their testimonies. They knew him and could speak authoritatively for him. What about you? How well do you know the Lord (Father, Son, Holy Spirit)? Knowing Him is the source of eternal life. If you’re only acquainted with Jesus, are you willing to dig deeper, to know him better by spending quality time with him as they did?
