02 / Sunday Read 2 Tim 4:3-4 (NLT) / 2 Pet 2:1-2 (NIV) / 1 Jn 2:21-24 (CEV)

Overview: We begin this three-week message series with an introduction to the Nicene Creed and what it tells us about God the Father.

03 / Mon – Knowledge of the Holy One  |  Read Psalm 50:21-23 ESV

At the beginning of his book, The Knowledge of the Holy, A.W. Tozer makes this thought-provoking statement: What comes to mind when we think about God is the most important thing about us. Have you considered how critical it is that your idea of God corresponds to God’s true being? He wants you to know Him as He is, not as the caricature He is often portrayed. It is a form of idolatry to believe God is less than He is because then you are worshipping a false version of Him. No one who loves God wants to fall into this trap. Will you take time to consider how you view God?

04 / Tue – Creator  |  Read Rev 4:11 / Genesis 1:27

In the beginning, God revealed Himself as the Creator. You are the result of His creative work as He has made you in His image. Sin can mar and darken that image but the Creator is not finished with you yet. Have patience with yourself, and with others, in the process of becoming the person God intends you to be. What good qualities do you see in yourself? Where are areas where you need to be repaired or refined or even recreated? God can do the seemingly impossible, so ask and listen to what He says. You are precious in His sight.

05 / Wed – Father  |  Read Matt 6:9 / Ps 103:13-14 / Matt 6:8 / Matt 10:29-31

The Nicene Creed was created as a statement of the basic beliefs held by Christians. Are you familiar with its words? The first section describes God as the Father. What are some positive qualities you would hope for in a dad? You’ll find those and more in your heavenly Father. God has none of the imperfections your earthly father may have had. The better you get to know Him, the more you will see evidence of that fact. He is absolutely trustworthy as the perfect Dad.

06 / Thu – Only God can be…  |  Read Isaiah 46:5-6

Theologians use two categories when describing what God is like: qualities that are only true of God and His qualities that can be true about us. You might recognize some only-God-can-be traits like all-powerful (omnipotent), all-knowing (omniscient), and everywhere present (omnipresent). Others included eternal, unchanging, self-existent, self-sufficient, sovereign, infinite. Which of God’s traits comforts or encourages you? Why those particular ones? Take time to appreciate all that He is.

07 / Fri – God is…and you can also be…  |  Read Galatians 5:22-26

This second type of God’s qualities that can be true of you too includes words like good, wise, loving, holy, patient, faithful, gracious, truthful, and merciful. What other traits might you include? Which are you most thankful that God is, and why? Pick one trait you would like to grow in. What would that look like in your life today? It is not something you can do on your own, but the Holy Spirit will help you.

08 / Sat – Conclusions  |  Read Psalm 145:1-21

What are some conclusions you’ve come to as you consider who God is? Are your thoughts of Him accurate? No one can know everything about God, but it is important to have a high view of Him. Don’t be afraid to be real about how you actually think of Him. He knows anyway. Maybe you’ll want to ask Him to show any false beliefs and how to correct them. God wants you to know the real Him. Will you commit to thinking worthy thoughts about Him? That is where love grows.
