18 / Sunday Read John 14:1-6
Overview: What really happens after we die? Well, we don’t become angels. Better yet, the bible promises that Christians are with the Lord in God’s house, every tear is dried, and there is joyful worship of God.
19 / Mon – Servants vs family members | Read Heb 1:14 / Heb 2:11 / 1st John 3:1
God doesn’t need more angels. He has all He needs to carry out His bidding. What He’s looking for are those who want to become part of His family as a son or daughter, for those who want to live with Him after their life on earth is over. How can you refuse Someone who offers His unconditional love, and adds heaven, too, though you know you don’t deserve it? As you begin this week, will you spend some time contemplating what an amazing privilege it is to be a child of God?
20 / Tue – Already ordained | Read Psalm 139:13-18, 23
Most people don’t look forward to the end of their lives, but it is reassuring to know that no one dies one moment before their time is over. God inscribed in His book all the days ordained for each person before they were born. Long or short, when your time on earth ends, everything will have been accomplished according to God’s plans for you. And the best part is…afterward you get to be with Him forever. How can you live more fully today in the light of this truth? Will you look for opportunities to bless Him by blessing others while you are able?
21 / Wed – Not beyond redemption | Read Luke 23:39-43 / Acts 2:21
Do you know someone who believes they have ruined their life, that there’s no hope, and that they don’t deserve God’s mercy and grace? By his own confession, this man earned his death sentence. And he was out of time. He couldn’t go to church or be baptized or even kneel to pray. Yet Jesus saw his heart, forgave him, and promised to take this man with him. No one is too far gone to be saved if they will call on the name of the Lord. Who needs to hear this? Will you tell them?
22 / Thu – Your best friend | Read John 15:14-16
Maybe you’ve heard the catchy tune You’ve Got A Friend in Me from Toy Story. Who do you consider your best friend? What are the characteristics you admire most? The greatest blessing of life after this life is not the streets of gold or stunning mansions or even being reunited with your loved ones. It is being able to hug Jesus. There is no better friend than the One who wanted you to be with him so badly that he died to make it happen. How are you being a good friend to him?
23 / Fri – Unknowingly hosting angels | Read Heb 13:2 / Gen 18:1-14, 20-22 and 19:1-3, 15-16
Hospitality is an important value woven into the fabric of many cultures. And it needs to be a characteristic of those who follow Jesus. Why? Because of the Lord’s hospitality to us. It reflects His warm reception when we come to Him, and we want to pass it along to others. Some are more gifted in this way than others, but everyone can do their best. Kindness may open someone’s heart to the Lord. And it can bless you as well. Just ask Abraham and Lot.
24 / Sat – Bookends of God’s story | Read Gen 2:8-9, 16-17 and 3:21-24 / Rev 22:1-2
Remember the two special trees in the garden of Eden? Only one of them was off-limits. And of course, it became the focus of attention and was so desirable that Eve and then Adam gave in to temptation. That was the beginning of the trouble and chaos, sin and grief you see around you today. But that’s not the end of the story. In the beginning, there were two trees. At the end, which one remains? Your story has a beginning and an end. A glorious end that is just the beginning of forever. You too will enjoy fruit from the tree of Life, a gift from your amazing God.
