SEP 07 / Sunday Read Psalm 19:1-4 / Genesis 1:31 / Psalm 104:24-25 / Romans 1:20 / Psalm 8:3-4
Overview: From majestic mountains and trees to color-drenched flowers and tiny bugs, we’re constantly provided a glimpse of God’s attributes throughout all of nature.
08 / Mon – Stopping to notice | Read Genesis 1:31
In the beginning, everything God made was good. Although sin has marred some of God’s creation, you can still see beauty around you, when taking the time to look. What are some of your favorite things? Do you intentionally express gratitude to the Lord for them? Every good and beautiful thing you see reflects the goodness of God himself. Goal: look for three beautiful things today and know they are a gift from your generous Creator.
09 / Tue – A change of season | Read Genesis 8:22
You might live where there are four distinct seasons – spring, summer, fall and winter. It is easy to grumble about the heat or the cold or having to rake up dead leaves but, just for a moment, remind yourself of the beauty each season brings. Can you name three things you love about this current season? And if you hear others complaining, be countercultural. Ask what they love about it. You might start a mini gratitude revolution.
10 / Wed – A fruitful garden | Read Isaiah 55:10-13 / Isaiah 61:11
Are you a gardener or know someone who is? One of the most beautiful sights is a well-tended garden. If you love to grow things, you know full well that you can fertilize the soil, plant the seeds, water the ground but only God can make them grow. Next time you eat some vegetables from your garden (or someone else’s), chew slowly. Savor the taste. Let it be a reminder that, just as good food gives physical strength, so the word of God will feed your soul and grow His fruit in your life.
11 / Thu – A universal language | Read Psalm 100:1-5 / Ephesians 5:18-20
Do you hum along to familiar tunes? A recent study shows how this simple practice can relieve stress in your body. Music is sometimes called a universal language. The words may be foreign but the melodies still touch your heart. And what a variety of genres – something for everyone! The right music makes you smile, touches your heart and often triggers fond memories. The best, though, is the music that worships the Lord, helping you connect with Him when you don’t have words of your own. How has music been a beautiful thing in your life?
12 / Fri – Even in the dark | Read Genesis 1:1-5 / Genesis 1:14-19
God’s story begins with darkness covering the earth. His first act was to call forth light and to separate it from the dark, calling them day and night, declaring it to be good. Later He created the sun to rule the day and the moon and stars to govern the night. Every time you see a multitude of stars on a clear night, do you take time to enjoy the view? This kind of beauty can fill up your soul and remind you of one more way the Lord delights in giving you lovely things.
13 / Sat – In its time | Read Romans 1:19-20 / Ecclesiastes 3:11-14
God has set eternity in the human heart. It is apparent by how people in every culture instinctively know there is something bigger than themselves. Nature reveals that to all of us. We may not know exactly what the future holds but we do know this: God makes everything beautiful in its proper time. Solomon’s words are a reminder of this fact in the middle of things that are not the way they should be. Will you focus on the beauty God shows you right now and let them encourage you as you wait for the future? That is where He will make every single thing perfect and glorious.
