JUN 01 / Sunday – Read Exodus 1:22 / Exodus 2:1-10
Overview: During times of chaos, believers can take comfort in the fact that God is on the lookout 24/7 to bring protection and peace in the midst of life’s rough waters.
02 / Mon – Drama at the beach | Read Exodus 1:22 / Exodus 2:1-10
Summertime is beach time. A great way to relax. In the Bible, things happen at the beach that change lives. This story took place on the shore of the Nile River, and it involved a mother, a baby, a sister and a princess. Imagine yourself in each person’s position. What might be going on in each mind and heart? Do you gain any insights that could apply to your past or present situations? How does God show you that He is in control? Do you trust Him enough to take the next step?
03 / Tue – Chaos in the camp | Read 1 Samuel 17:45-47
Fear and chaos were running rampant through Saul’s army. The challenger seemed undefeatable but help came from the most unlikely source. What declaration did David make as the foundation of his actions? Are you facing a challenging situation that may be causing chaos in your life? Does it seem there is no solution? Do you need a different mindset? Read David’s declaration again. Ask God for a resolution that honors Him.
04 / Wed – Chaos in the enemy’s camp | Read 2 Kings 6:24-25, 30-33 / 2 Kings 7:1-16
Sometimes chaos shows up in your life but at other times, God causes chaos among your enemies. Here is a stunning example from Israel’s history. What made the Aramean army desert their post? (See 7:6-7) Have you seen the Lord defend you at a time when you were being unjustly attacked? Or you saw Him defend someone you know? What occurred? Did this experience give you confidence in God’s power and ability to act on your behalf? How so?
05 / Thu – Really? Okaaay | Read Joshua 6:1-5, 20
Has God ever told you to do something so silly you were embarrassed to obey Him? If so, what did you do? What was the result? In this hard-to-believe story, that is exactly what happened to Joshua and the Israelites. Don’t fight, just walk in a circle, this many times, for this many days. It may have seemed ridiculous to the soldiers but they obeyed. What they discovered is that, no matter how strange God’s instructions are, obeying Him will bring victory. How might this apply to you?
06 / Fri – Back to the beginning | Read Genesis 1:1-5
These words are so familiar we often skip over their significance. In the beginning there was chaos, but God was there. What was the first thing He commanded in v3? How did that simple command make all the difference? Do you need Him to shine some light on your situation today? Or maybe you know someone who is struggling. God is there, hovering over us in those dark places. He will bring light into each situation that can change everything. Will you take time right now to ask for His light to shine on yours?
07 / Sat – Anxiety banished | Read Isaiah 54:10 / John 14:27 / Philippians 4:6-7
External circumstances can cause internal chaos. Those feelings might be a natural reaction, but they don’t need to control you. Shift your focus. Be honest with yourself and the Lord. Take what he offers in v27. Implement the practical steps Paul gave to the Phillipians. In the middle of your anxiety, will you choose to praise God for who He is, remind yourself of His power and strength, stand on His promises and let His peace flow into your heart and mind? Repeat as often as needed and you will see the power of chaos dissipate to be replaced by His peace. What a gift!
