OCT 27 / Sunday – Read Romans 12:6-8 / 1 Corinthians 12:7
Overview: We all have some gifts from Christ to be used for the common good. So use what you got in order to experience a winning life in Christ.
28 / Mon – Spiritual gifts | Read Romans 12:6-8
What is a spiritual gift? It is a Spirit-inspired ability to do something that builds up the body of Christ to do His work. Do you compare yourself with others, especially when they are good at something you are not? It’s easy to forget God has gifted us all in some way. In this letter, Paul is encouraging his readers to recognize any gift the Holy Spirit has given them and to exercise it. What resonates with you? Are there any you enjoy doing and maybe even feel called to focus on?
29 / Tue – Two examples | Read Jonah 1:1-2 and 3:1-10 / Acts 8:18-24
Today most people think prophecy means to predict future events, but the Hebrew word means to speak out. God uses prophets to call out sin, predicting dire consequences that will happen in the future if people do not repent and turn to the Lord. Does that resonate with you? Are you someone who’s compelled at times, by the Holy Spirit, to tell others what God wants them to know? If so, and if you do it with humility, your job is done. The Holy Spirit will do the rest.
30 / Wed – Servant leaders | Read Acts 6:1-7
Someone who has the spiritual gift of leadership can be used by the Lord to build teams and help do the work God has called them to. Here is a situation that arose in the early church. What was the problem in v 1-2? Notice how seriously they took the selection of new leaders. What requirements did they have in v 3? No matter where God might call you to be a leader or how large or small the task is, these same requirements apply. Are you willing if He calls you to lead?
31 / Thu – Teaching | Read Acts 18:1-4, 24-28
Paul taught Acquila and Priscilla. They in turn taught Apollos. Then Apollos went to Achaia and taught the believers there. The teaching gift starts by first being a learner. When what you learn impacts you greatly, you’ll want to share it with others who are also eager to learn. It does not matter if you teach one person or many, because the ripple effect takes over and God uses your efforts to accomplish His purposes. Who has taught you? Who are you teaching?
01 / Fri – Encourage & show mercy | Read Acts 4:36 / Acts 11:22-26 / Acts 15:37-40
Barnabas’ name means son of encouragement. That’s what he became known for. He went to Antioch to encourage the new believers there. Then he went to find Saul (Paul) and bring him alongside to help grow the new congregation. When John Mark failed, Barnabas gave him another chance. The gospel that Mark wrote is just one result of the encouragement and mercy he showed this young man. You never know how God will use your encouragement to change someone’s life. Who can you encourage today?
02 / Sat – Giving generously | Read Luke 21:4
It is a misconception that you have to be rich to be a generous giver. Widows were some of the poorest people in Israel but that didn’t stop this woman. Her gift showed she trusted that God would provide for her future needs. It is good to give; why is it so hard sometimes? Fear can make you grip your money tightly. God asks His people to give so when He pours out His blessings, no one can claim credit. God is generous with you. Will you be generous with Him?
