OCT 2  / Sunday – Read Mark 5:22-34

Overview: Jesus heals a woman who has been bleeding for 12 years. How can we help heal a broken world?

03 / Mon – Everybody has something  |  Read Matthew 14:14 / Isaiah 53:4-5

It is a rare person who doesn’t need some kind of healing. Physical, mental, emotional, or relational  healing. Life is hard. Bones break, hearts break, depression debilitates, cancer invades, accidents knock us off balance…the list goes on. Jesus was full of compassion as he saw this broken world and people who were suffering. It motivated him to heal all who came to him. Was it these miracles that convinced them he was more than just a traveling preacher?

04 / Tue – A courageous act  |  Read Mark 5:24-34

On Jesus’ way to heal a little girl, there was an unnamed woman in the crowd following him. She had been bleeding for 12 years and found no medical cure. The tragic thing is she was banned from worshiping at the temple until this condition was healed. For twelve years, everything and everyone she touched was considered unclean. Her action in v. 27 took great courage. Read her self-talk in v. 28. Are you desperate enough to touch Jesus for your need or are you still trying to fix it yourself?

05 / Wed – Worst case scenario  |  Read Mark 5:21-23 and 35-43

If you are a parent, you may have spent sleepless nights with a sick child and probably understand how desperate this father was. It is hard to be sick yourself but agonizing to watch your child suffer. Jairus was probably wealthy enough to consult a doctor. Maybe he had. But he was convinced that Jesus could do what no one else could. He humbled himself and asked for help. Why wait until things are at their worst before you do the same?

06 / Thu – Listening to the lies |  Read John 8:44 / James 4:7

Chronic pain can be very discouraging. Especially when you have prayed and seen doctors and done everything you know to do. That’s when the devil starts whispering in your head. Can God be trusted? He must not love you or you’d be healed by now. He just doesn’t care. What’s your response? Give up? Or focus on who God is, his character and his complete understanding of all things? Counter Satan’s lies with God’s truths found in scripture. Say them outloud until Satan leaves.

07 / Fri – Something to consider  |  Read James 5:14-16

In some cases, an unconfessed sin may be a contributing factor to someone’s illness. Several times, when Jesus healed someone, he also said your sins are forgiven. James gives action steps to take when you are sick. Confession is good for the soul but it is also good for the body. One of the most freeing things you’ll ever experience is when you bring those hidden things into the light. Are you willing to humble yourself and do so?

08 / Sat – Do you trust Him?  |  Read Psalm 145:8-9, 13-20

Jesus healed back then but he still heals today. Have you heard stories or experienced healing in your own life or in your family? It can be devastating, however, when the person you’ve prayed for doesn’t get well or even dies. Is that a sign that you didn’t have enough faith? Or is it a sign that God had a better plan? Some things we will never understand in this life. But you can put your faith in the character of God. He is good. In his infinite understanding, he will do what is best.
