JUL 03 / Sunday – Read Genesis 37-45

Overview: We just finished up VBS. We’ll talk about what the kids learned and how it applies to our own lives.

04 / Mon – Source of freedom  |  Read John 8:32-36 / John 14:6

Today many Americans will celebrate the freedom they have been given, something that residents in some countries do not have. However, there is freedom available to everyone, no matter what the governmental system a person lives under…freedom of the Spirit. Jesus proclaimed it is truth that sets a person free. He not only spoke the truth but he is truth. When has the truth about a situation dawned on you and it changed everything? What happened?

05 / Tue – Freedom from…  |  Read 2 Corinthians 3:17

Check out the following verses and list some of the things Jesus has set his people free from: Romans 8:2; Hebrews 2:14-15; Romans 8:1. What other things has Jesus set you free from in your own life?

06 / Wed – Freedom to…  |  Read Ephesians 3:12

When sin entered the world through Adam and Eve’s choices, the relationship with their Creator God was broken. Jesus came to open the way back into a relationship with God by paying the penalty for sin. It is available to anyone who asks, but some people are still unsure of their welcome. Shame or fearing their sins are too great can keep them from coming to him. Reread this promise. Is there a reason you might be reluctant to approach God today? Because of Jesus, you don’t need to be.

07 / Thu – Misuse of freedom |  Read 2 Corinthians 4:2

Unfortunately there are people who misuse their freedom. What warnings do you find in these passages? Galatians 5:1 Galatians 5:13 ; 1 Peter 2:16-17. In what other ways have you seen someone misuse their freedom in Christ?

08 / Fri – Things aren’t always as they seem  |  Read John 18:37-38a / John 15:26 / John 16:13

Sometimes a situation becomes so complicated, it is difficult to discern the truth. Even Pilate asked “what is truth?” when faced with conflicting ‘evidence’ at Jesus’ trial. But you have full access to the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth. He is omniscient and knows everything about everything. When you ask, he will help you discover the real truth. “What is really going on here?” is a good question to ask frequently. Then listen for the Holy Spirit’s answer. It could save you a lot of grief.

09 / Sat – A liar tells lies  |  Read John 8::44-45 / John 17:17

The devil is a liar. His lies might be bold and recognizable or subtle half-truths that seem appealing. You can see this in Jesus’ conversation with him in the wilderness (Matt. 4:1-11). You can also see how Jesus answered him with the truth in God’s word. God’s truth is often different from what a person thinks. Do you want to know the truth from God’s view? Make this your daily prayer: “Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior and my hope is in you…” Ps 25:5.
