“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look,
new things have come.
– 2 Corinthians 5:17 Holman Christian Standard Bible

The robins are singing outside my office this morning. It’s a sure sign of spring. Or is it? Do you remember when people looked forward to seeing the first robin of the year? If you saw one in late winter you might tell someone, “I saw my first robin today!” It was exciting. A new spring was about to begin.

Nowadays I see robins all winter long. They sit in the crabapple tree eating the frozen fruit. Seeing a robin is no longer a sign of something wonderful to come. It’s just another robin, so I hardly pay attention. When we experience something so often that it becomes routine, we can forget how wonderful it really is.

That can happen with the good news of Jesus, too. Year after year we go through another Lent and then on to Holy Week and finally Easter. We tell the stories of Jesus – again. We wave palm branches – again. We gather around the Last Supper table – again. And we hear that the tomb is empty – again. The most amazing news the world has ever known becomes routine and we forget how wonderful it really is.

I hope this year won’t be that way for you and pray that God will touch you in a fresh way that stops you in your tracks and leaves you excited about what is to come. Christ is alive and active and working even today. New things have come.

Have a great week,

Pastor Mark

P.S. Don’t forget to put the special Good Friday service led by Craig Wasner and friends on your calendar, April 18, 7:00 pm. It could be just the thing to help you experience Jesus in a new way.
