Labor Day weekend is almost here! This has always been a weekend full of mixed emotions for me. I always appreciated a day off from work, but it also meant my kids were going back to school the very next day. I was never one of those parents that rejoiced when the kids went back to school – it sent me into mourning! It meant no more late-night bonfires or movies, no more sleeping in. And then there was the homework…yes, it’s safe to say Labor Day brought about a sort of grief as we had to say good-bye to the wonderful things of summer.
Now that I’m a grandmother, however, Labor Day means something completely different. This year I am crazy-excited for my granddaughter to attend preschool, I am praying for a more “normal” school year for students of all ages, and I’m looking forward to reinstating some of the events at church that didn’t happen last year due to COVID-19.
One of those things is our FALL KICKOFF! This year we are GOING BIG, with a FULL-BLOWN event at Pioneer Park following our second service on Sunday, September 26th. We’ll have inflatables, folks grilling DELICIOUS food, corn hole games (maybe a tournament?!) and even Root Beer Floats for dessert – you will not want to miss this! Go online for all the information and ideas on how you can help.
In the meantime, whatever your Labor Day looks like, I pray you are safe and spending time with loved ones. Remember to pray for all the students, teachers, and bus drivers heading back to school on the 7th – may each one of us be the light of Jesus in our comings and goings.
Peace in Christ,
Pastor Julie
