“To understand Jesus, it’s important to understand his Jewish background. Jesus was Jewish. His disciples were Jewish. He preached from the Jewish bible (the Old Testament, as we call it). And he died during the Jewish festival of Passover. The bible even calls him our “Passover lamb.”
(1 Corinthians 5:7). Knowing the Jewish context for what Jesus did and taught provides greater insight into the work of our Savior.
This coming Thursday, March 30, at 7:00 pm there will be a program at Resurrection Church on “Christ in the Passover.” The speaker for the event is from the Jews for Jesus organization. All are invited to come and learn more about the connection between Passover, the Last Supper, and Holy Communion.
Speaking of the Last Supper, the following Thursday (April 6) is Maundy Thursday which commemorates Jesus’ final meal with his friends before going to the cross. Pastor Julie will be preaching and there will be a very special time of communion.
The day after that is Good Friday, the day Christ died. Craig Wasner and friends will again be leading a powerful Good Friday worship service that evening beginning at 7:00. I hope to see you there as well, but all our worship services are streamed online if you can’t make it in person.
God bless you as Lent draws to a close and we prepare for the great celebration of Easter.
