“T he kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.– Matthew 13:44 NIV

Yesterday, while I was digging up my garden beds, I found buried treasure. I flipped over a shovel full of dirt, and there was my wedding ring that I lost last year. I couldn’t believe it. I had long since given up on ever seeing it again. I wiped it off and put it right back on my hand. What joy.

In Jesus’ parable of the Kingdom, a man found buried treasure, but he had to do a lot more than wipe it off and put it on his finger.  He had to sell everything he owned in order to receive the treasure.  Still, it was worth it because the treasure was so valuable.

The point of the parable is that being a part of the Kingdom of Heaven is worth more than anything else we own.  In fact, it’s worth more than everything else put together. And yet, God freely gives it to us.  The treasure is all ours because of Jesus.  What a blessing.

Have a wonderful week.
