Overview: This past week, over 50 kids attended VBS each day at Resurrection from 9a to noon to explore the nature of God and have fun. Wondering what you missed?
15 / Mon – VBS day 1: God is our creator | Read Psalm 103:22 / Colossians 3:23
Interestingly, the Hebrew word for create (bara) describes what only God can do. Making something out of nothing. No tools or materials. His voice, His spoken words, shaped the universe. You were made in His image and are endowed with some of His creativity. What do you enjoy and are good at doing? What brings you a sense of fulfillment? How can you use those skills to honor Him and bless others?
16 / Tue – VBS day 2: God knows everything | Read Psalm 139:1-18
This psalm gives us “a front row seat to David’s heart as he wrestles with the incredible truth that God knows everything about him…his thoughts, his actions, even the words he hasn’t spoken yet.” As a young man, David spent much time alone in a shepherd’s field, learning to know the Lord. As VBS day 2 taught, “…David understood both the comfort and the weight of being fully known by a God who never loses sight of His people.” Do you feel invisible at times? God sees and knows and cares. Will you let that truth shatter any other thoughts to the contrary?
17 / Wed – VBS day 3: God is our safe place | Read Ps 142:5 / 1 Sam 23:14 / Prov 18:10
After David was chosen as God’s next king of Israel, he spent years on the run from King Saul. Every moment, his life was in jeopardy. To the south of Bethlehem, the caves of Adullam were a rugged and rocky refuge. These natural formations were large and deep, providing shelter and safety. David used these caves, but his true dependence was on the presence and promises of God. In times when you don’t feel safe, where do you run first? Why?
18 / Thu – VBS day 4: God is love | Read Ps 136:1 / Ex 34:5-7 / Ps 103 / Rom 5:6-8
Ancient religions were fear-based, and people were constantly trying to appease their gods. In the Old Testament, God revealed His power, but also His love, compassion, and goodness. How did He describe Himself in Ex 34? What are some things about the Lord in Ps 103 that caused David to overflow with praise? What was God’s ultimate demonstration of love in Rom 5? A million problems are solved when these truths permeate your heart and mind. His love is rock-solid.
19 / Fri – VBS day 5: God is forever | Read Revelation 21:1-5 / John 14:1-3
Life is constantly changing. It can be good, or it can cause anxiety and uncertainty. On the last day of VBS, the kids learned that they never have to be afraid of the future. God gave a glimpse of what heaven would look like in Revelation. And the Bible teaches that God never runs out, never changes, never leaves. His love is permanent. His promises are unbreakable. His home is waiting for all who trust Him. Do you believe these things are true? Who can you share them with today?
20 / Sat – Wrap-up for the week | Read Isaiah 46:7
VBS explored some of God’s attributes: creator, being omniscient, our protector, full of love, and being eternal. Maybe you’d like to do a self-inventory here: Do I acknowledge that God created me? Do I often question God because I think I know more than He does about my life? Do I see him as a protector, or do I let misunderstandings erode my trust in Him? Do I know – really know – the love God has for me as His child? Do I let anxiety rob my peace of mind, or do I trust God for the future? Take your concerns to Him in a prayer conversation and let Him reveal Himself to you.
