I have been rummaging through all the old children’s books at our house to find books for our fall sermon series. I found “Good Night Moon” and several Berenstain Bears books, and of course, a number of Dr. Suess books as well. But I could not find one of my favorites: the Farm ABC book. I can’t count the number of times I read it to my three boys. In fact, I’ve read it so many times I don’t even need the book. It’s stuck in my brain…
A is for acres. Our farm has many. Meet Dad, Mom and Johnny – and my name is Penny!
B that’s our barn, standing red, high and wide, with the cows and the horses and kittens inside.
C is for crops – corn, melons, and grain. All growing in sunshine and drinking in rain…
It is the longest piece of literature I have ever memorized. And yet I didn’t even have to work at it. It just happened as I read the book over and over again. The same can happen with the bible. It can be hard to memorize scripture, but simply by reading it again and again, it works its way into our minds and hearts. And then, whether we have our bible with us or not, we can call upon God’s Word and receive its hope and inspiration.
In Christ,
Pastor Mark
