“I can remember as a child, the whole family getting dressed up in preparation for Mass on Easter Sunday (I grew up Catholic). My dad would wear a suit, with his fresh crew-cut and a little hanky in his pocket. My mom would have a pastel-colored suit on with her hair carefully coiffed. And my siblings and I (I was the youngest at the time) would be wearing our special outfits, right down to the lace socks and our shiny shoes – sometimes we girls even wore white gloves, soft and special.
At church there were all kinds of flowers and music, but what I was waiting for was the hunt that would take place upon returning home! The search for that Easter basket, filled with brightly colored “grass,” foil-wrapped chocolate eggs, marshmallow candies and so many other goodies!
What I didn’t realize at that young age, is that Easter is so very special for an entirely different reason. Easter marks the greatest gift ever given to humankind, motivated by an incredible love that we can’t even fathom.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. – John 3:16-17
So here we are – Holy Week is upon us! Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, as we continue our walk to the cross, remembering the last days of Jesus’ life – the last supper (Maundy Thursday), his arrest and crucifixion (Good Friday), and his resurrection – Easter – the greatest gift ever given!
We hope to see you at our services this week:
- Maundy Thursday at 7:00pm with a special time of Holy Communion
- Good Friday at 7:00pm – a very special night with Craig and friends
- Easter Sunday at 8:30 & 10:00am
I’ll end with this Easter blessing:
May the glory and the promise of this joyous time of year
bring peace and happiness to you and those you hold most dear.
And may Christ, our risen Savior, always be there by your side
to bless you most abundantly and be your loving guide. – Author Unknown
May you experience the PEACE of Christ this Easter!
