Even from my office I could hear the excitement. “Look what I made! Look what made!” said the child holding out the craft made in Vacation Bible School today. It was the pure joy of creating something and sharing it.
God must have known a similar joy in creation. In Genesis 1, after each new day of creating, it says, “And God saw that is was good.” You can almost hear God say, “Look what I made! Look what I made!” Unfortunately, we don’t often take the time to look at what God made. Even worse, we treat God’s creation as something to be used and abused. It’s as if we received the child’s gift of a newly created VBS craft, then just crumpled it up and tossed it aside.
Last month when the crew from Resurrection did our semi-annual highway cleanup, we filled bags of trash that people just tossed aside. Sure, there were items that were not intentionally left there (a piece of plastic from a fender-bender and a flattened squirrel), but most of the trash was tossed aside with no regard for God’s creation or our neighbor: pop cans and chip bags, beer bottles, and cigarette butts.
Thank you to those who took the time to help clean up our little corner of God’s creation. Also, thank you to all the volunteers who helped the VBS students learn about our Creator and do a little creating themselves. It’s truly a good world and you help Resurrection church make it a little better. Thank you, REZ, for caring.
